Scientist and Reincarnation
There are researchers and scientists that believe reincarnation to be true and false. There are those who have done research and have contributed to literature by publishing what they found, like Professor Ian Stevenson, among others.
Ian Stevenson was a professor at the University of Virginia and dedicated 40 years of his life to researching the belief in reincarnation. He spoke with many children, mostly from the Eastern societies, about what they say they remember of a past life. One child in particular, a boy who lived in Beirut, gave such specific details as to how he died and even the names of family members, that when looked into further matched up with a man who died several years before he was born. Professor Stevenson says that he is very strict in how he conducts his research so he believes them to be true accounts.
Other research that has been attributed to past lives includes linking up birth marks and scars that people have that they say came from a past life. Also birth defects are a way they research past lives and these are all verified through medical records and photographs from autopsies of the deceased.
The objections of reincarnation include that there is no evidence a personality can survive death and move into another body, selective thinking, false memories, or that most people do not remember any kind of past life. Either way, reincarnation is still being researched by scientists today.
